
MISSION:
THE SUN PRAIRIE MEDIA CENTER’S MISSION IS TO SERVE SUN PRAIRIE BY EDUCATING, INFORMING, ENTERTAINING, AND EMPOWERING ITS CITIZENS THROUGH PROGRAMMING PRODUCED BY SUN PRAIRIE RESIDENTS FOR SUN PRAIRIE RESIDENTS.
Sun Prairie Media Center consists of three main entities, each with its own individual mission:
KSUN: The mission of KSUN is to train and nurture Sun Prairie residents in providing original video programming designed to educate, inform, entertain, and enlighten the city of Sun Prairie. KSUN programming should appeal to a wide range of Sun Prairie residents and reflect the diverse nature of the Sun Prairie population.
KIDS-4: The mission of KIDS-4 is to promote media literacy to the youth population of Sun Prairie as well as to teach students all aspects of producing original video and audio content. Students enrolled in KIDS-4 become more discriminating consumers of media, better communicators, better collaborators, and receive vital hands-on experience on a wide range of media-making tools.
103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio: The mission of 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio is to train and nurture Sun Prairie residents in providing original radio and podcast programming designed to educate, inform, entertain, and enlighten the city of Sun Prairie. 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio programming should appeal to a wide range of Sun Prairie residents and reflect the diverse nature of the Sun Prairie population.
HISTORY
Since 1977, Sun Prairie Media Center has served thousands of people in the community of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, offering original programming that can be seen nowhere else.
A pioneer in the field of media literacy, KIDS-4 continues to distinguish itself as the only access channel in the country devoted entirely to children. KIDS-4 participants examine the media to see how it influences our everyday lives. Through the production of their own shows, KIDS-4 encourages the young people of Sun Prairie to become more critical consumers of electronic media.
KSUN is Sun Prairie’s Public, Education and Government (PEG) channel. In serving these community interests KSUN airs a variety of programming. Shows by and for seniors, local government and civic meetings, high school sports, musical programs, church services and more are showcased on KSUN.
103.5FM The SUN, Community Radio started in 2015 and is a low power community radio station. The radio station showcases a variety of volunteer-produced music and talk programs, high school sports, city meetings, and live on-location broadcasts.
As a non-profit program, Sun Prairie Media Center, relies heavily on the generosity of contributors and volunteers. With strong support we can ensure that this program will continue to thrive and grow along with the community of Sun Prairie.
