The Sun Prairie Media Center is pleased to introduce Colin Lessig, their new full-time production manager. Colin Lessig comes to SPMC after teaching in the humanities department at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville (UWP) for nearly a decade. There he primarily taught English composition, but occasionally taught Introduction to Film and Introduction to literature. Originally from Maryland, Lessig studied English and Communications with a film emphasis at Elon University (North Carolina). As a student, he volunteered at the college radio station (where he hosted a show called “The Midnight Trip”), took many media production courses, and interned during summers at Maryland Public Television and for a local production company. The Sun Prairie Media Center is pleased to announce that KSUN, sunprairiemediacenter.com, and 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio will once again be the places to tune to for live coverage of home AND away Sun Prairie Cardinals high school football games this fall. All home games will be broadcast live on KSUN (Charter cable channel 983 and TDS channels 13 and 1013), streamed on sunprairiemediacenter.com, and aired on 103.5 The Sun Community Radio. We are still accepting registrations for the workshops that still have space available. More information and online registration is available at kids4.tv. These workshops are designed for budding journalists, filmmakers, actors, and DJs who want a fun and creative way to express themselves, learn how to make movies, or star in them. Participants will be introduced to media production in a fun, hands-on learning environment that’s conveniently located – the SPMC is, after all, in the same building as the public library!  These courses will inspire kids in a creative atmosphere to learn communication skills they can use for a lifetime.  Class fees include a USB drive with your child’s projects to share with family and friends. Wisconsin Community Media, in conjunction with the Alliance for Community Media’s Midwest Region, held their annual Spring Conference and Best of the Midwest Media Fest earlier this month. The Sun Prairie Media Center is happy to announce that thirteen original shows created for either KSUN television or 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio received awards at the fest. Volunteer producer Mark Gonwa was a big winner, taking home the prize for Best in Show (radio division) for his 103.5 programs “Take Immediate Cover” and “Song Archaeology.” “Song Archaeology” focuses on connecting popular songs through themes, while “Take Immediate Cover” features the best, strangest, and must-hear versions of tracks initially made famous by other artists. High school students or recent grads are encouraged to apply for the 2019 Peter Wright Scholarship. The scholarship, which was created in 2018, seeks to provide one student an opportunity to learn anything and everything about 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio. The winner of the scholarship will receive a $500 stipend to spend time over six weeks working and learning at the Sun Prairie Media Center. Peter Wright was a 1992 graduate of Sun Prairie High School who passed away unexpectedly on July 24, 2017. The Sun Prairie Media Center, a city of Sun Prairie department and one of the top community media centers in Wisconsin, has an immediate full-time position available as a production manager. This person works closely with city staff and media center volunteers to create local programming for KSUN, KIDS-4, and particularly 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio. The position involves training volunteers on equipment, teaching students in the KIDS-4 crews weekly, prepping recordings for air, assisting the director in volunteer and business sponsorship recruitment, and scheduling program and event coverage. Some evenings and weekends required. Associate’s degree in Communications, Electronic Media, Journalism or related field preferred. Experience working with and instructing children also preferred.
